A great thing happened in Charlotte last Thursday:  Michael Jordan, owner of the Bobcats, Bobcats Sports & Entertainment and FOX Sports Carolinas/SportSouth announced a $200,000 sponsorship of Y Achievers, a YMCA of Greater Charlotte program that operates in partnership with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS).  In addition, $5000 scholarships were given to 3 students, one at each high school location of Y Achievers- West Charlotte, West Mecklenburg and Vance.

What is Y Achievers?  “Y Achievers is a national YMCA program designed to help teens set and pursue high educational and career goals resulting in graduation and acceptance into a post-secondary institute or adoption of a vocation. Y Achievers helps teens improve academic performance, develop a positive sense of self, build character, explore diverse college and career options, and interact with professionals who serve as role models.”  To read more about the Y Achievers program, go to YMCAcharlotte.org.

My very favorite moments were when the scholarship winners were called up to the stage to receive their awards from Michael.  The genuine gratitude on their faces brought tears to my eyes!  What fun!  Getting to photograph such an inspirational event was definitely one of the highlights of my life.  I’m so thankful for the opportunity to document this special day for the YMCA.

And also for all of you Michael Jordan fans:  Michael was very friendly, talking with everyone and posing for pictures.

This is what it's all about!
